Founded in 1954, Kappa Theta has a long history of unity, service, and excellence. Our sisterhood was created when a group of 5 Cornell sophomore women was selected by the Dean of Women to create a new social group. The founding women accepted the task and came up with a list of other students they wanted in the group. Their agreement was that every person had to accept, or the group would not be formed. The original 5 women went door-to-door that night recruiting new members, and all of them said yes.

The original Thetas spent a week writing a constitution and choosing a name, colors, and symbol. They decided on gold and brown for colors to represent Kappa Theta. The Brown-Eyed Susan was the flower used as the official symbol for the group.

Since our founding, Kappa Theta has focused on unity and service. Each member participates in various service activities throughout their time as an active Theta. Service activities encompass a range of actions from interacting with Mount Vernon's elderly citizens to mentoring elementary and middle school students to contributing to environmental and conservation efforts.

Along with service, Thetas pride ourselves on our continued academic excellence and involvement with campus organizations. Our active members are involved with extracurricular activities like softball, cross country, track and field, lacrosse, cheerleading, Lunch Buddies, work-study, PINQ, civic engagement, and more.

The sisterhood of Kappa Theta values our strong traditions while welcoming new changes. The original founders of our sorority paved the way for Kappa Theta to become what it is today, a group of strong, unique people who can come together to help improve their community and themselves while having fun and making memories along the way.
